About me
I am Alejandro Santana, a licensed psychologist, and Enneagram.club is where I try to explain the Enneagram without the mysticism and without dumbing it down.

That number can be checked. I mention it because anyone can write about personality online, and it seems fair that you should know who is talking to you and be able to verify it yourself.
Why this site exists
The Enneagram has a reputation problem, and it has largely earned it. Search for any type and you will find horoscopes in disguise, three-question quizzes and lists of celebrities. You will also find the opposite: articles dismissing it as pseudoscience without having bothered to look at it.
In my experience, neither position helps anyone. The Enneagram is not a psychometric instrument and should not be sold as one, but it is a remarkably precise map of motivations, refined over decades of clinical and contemplative work. Explained well, it gives people a language for things they have been repeating for years without seeing.
That is where this site came from: wanting a place where the Enneagram is explained rigorously and without watering it down. No astrology, no academic contempt. The whole system — triads, wings, arrows and all 27 subtypes — written so it can actually be understood and used.
How the content is made
Everything here is written and reviewed by me. There are no anonymous guest writers and no bought-in text. Every guide follows the same process:
- 1Start from the original sources, not from what other websites say about them. The difference shows, especially in the subtypes and countertypes, where most pages repeat inherited errors.
- 2Cross-check against personality psychology where relevant evidence exists, instead of treating the Enneagram as a closed system that only answers to itself.
- 3Write to be understood. A text only the initiated can follow is not explaining anything to anyone.
- 4Review it clinically: that no description pathologises, that no trait is framed as a factory defect, and that the reader leaves with something usable rather than a label.
When I find a mistake I correct it and update the page date. If you spot one, write to me — I genuinely appreciate it.
What I draw on
The Enneagram of personality as we know it today comes from the work of Óscar Ichazo and, above all, of the Chilean psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo, who in the 1970s connected the nine types to the clinical psychology of his time. That is the lineage I follow.
From there I draw on later work by authors such as Riso and Hudson and A. H. Almaas, and on the available empirical research — for instance, studies examining how the nine types relate to the traits of the Five Factor Model.
When something is my own reading rather than settled ground in the system, I try to say so.
What this site is not
Education, not consultation
Enneagram.club is an educational project. Reading it does not create a therapeutic relationship with me, and nothing here replaces a psychological assessment, a diagnosis or a treatment.
The Enneagram describes patterns of motivation; it does not detect disorders or measure anything clinically. If you are going through a hard time, what helps is not a test — it is talking to a professional who can listen properly.
About the test
The test on this site has 117 items — plus a 54-item short version — and is built on each type’s deep motivation rather than on observable behaviour. Two people can do exactly the same thing for opposite reasons, and it is that “why” that defines your type.
It is free, requires no sign-up and stores absolutely nothing: it runs in your own browser and disappears when you close the page. Neither your answers nor your result ever reach a server.
Even so, I would ask you the same thing I would ask anyone in a session: the result is a starting point, not a verdict. Read the descriptions of your three highest types. Yours is almost always the one you recognise with a mix of discomfort and relief.
